Day 1: Shibuya and Shinjuku

• Morning: Start your day in the energetic and youthful district of Shibuya. Visit the famous Shibuya Crossing, one of the busiest intersections in the world. Be sure to capture a photo in the middle of the crossing!
• Afternoon: Spend the afternoon exploring the trendy neighborhood of Harajuku, known for its vibrant street culture and unique fashion styles. Be sure to check out Takeshita Street, a pedestrian walkway lined with shops selling everything from funky clothing to quirky accessories.
• Evening: Head to Shinjuku in the evening, another bustling district known for its nightlife and skyscrapers. Take in the panoramic views of the city from the observation deck of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, a free option!
• After dinner: Explore the neon-lit streets of Kabukicho, Shinjuku’s vibrant entertainment district.

Day 2: Asakusa and Imperial Palace

• Morning: Take a trip back in time in the traditional district of Asakusa. Start your day at Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo’s oldest temple. Be sure to walk along Nakamise-dori, a street lined with shops selling traditional Japanese souvenirs and street food.
• Afternoon: In the afternoon, head to the Imperial Palace, home to the Emperor of Japan. While you can’t enter the main palace buildings, the surrounding East Garden is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy nature.

*If you have time, take a walk through nearby Hibiya Park, a large park in the heart of Tokyo.

Day 3: Tokyo Tower and Ginza

• Morning: Start your day at Tokyo Tower, a 333-meter tall communications and observation tower inspired by the Eiffel Tower. The tower offers stunning views of the city skyline.
• Afternoon: Spend the afternoon in the luxurious district of Ginza. Window shop along Ginza’s high-end stores, or indulge in a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants in the area.
• Evening: Enjoy your last night in Tokyo by indulging in a delicious traditional Japanese meal. There are many amazing restaurants to choose from, depending on your budget.

• Getting around: Tokyo has a very efficient public transportation system. The best way to get around is by subway or train. 
• JR Pass: is great for traveling outside of Tokyo, but it is very expensive. If you are doing multiple trips in a week it can be worth it. But individual trips are usually cheaper. 
• Accommodations: There are many different neighborhoods to stay in Tokyo, each with its own unique atmosphere. For a unique experience, consider staying in a capsule hotel or ryokan (traditional Japanese inn). There are so many options to fit all budgets! 
• Etiquette: While not overly fancy, Japanese people are well-dressed and put together. I didn’t feel comfortable in leggings. Know you are going to take your shoes off when entering certain spaces. Eating and walking in public is highly discouraged so drink your coffee seated rather than picking it up on the go!
• We saved $18K by using credit card points and miles to fly business class round trip!

Fukuoka was an incredibly rewarding stop over while exploring Japan. We took a Shinkanen bullet train from Osaka and arrived late in the afternoon.  As a coastal city it boasts a beautiful shoreline filled with beaches as well as a mountainous interior where you’ll find trains for exploring. It is perhaps the most underrated city in Japan. There is an abundance of fresh seafood and it is known for incredible Ramen- enough said! Our only regret is not having enough days to explore this city!
